Several lives are feared lost following a petrol tanker explosion in Agbor, the headquarters of Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, on Sunday.
The tragic incident occurred near the First Bank area in Agbor as the tanker driver attempted to navigate a turn on the bustling Old Lagos/Asaba Road that cuts through the town.
The explosion wreaked havoc, leaving several houses and vehicles around the scene severely burnt. Among the victims was the owner of one of the vehicles, who was tragically burnt beyond recognition. His lifeless body lay along the expressway, a grim reminder of the disaster.
Passersby struggled helplessly to contain the raging flames as firefighters were yet to arrive at the scene at the time of this report.
Confirming the incident, Delta State Police Command spokesperson Edafe Bright said, “The command has been briefed about the incident.” He also urged residents to avoid the area for safety reasons.
