Police Rescue Kidnapped Victims, Arrest 17 For Murder

Police operatives from the Imo State Command have successfully rescued four kidnapped victims in Umuokanne, Ohaji Local Government Area of Imo State.

Responding to a distress call, the officers tracked the kidnappers to their hideout, where a gun battle ensued. Two suspects were neutralized during the operation, leading to the safe release of the hostages and the recovery of arms and ammunition.

In a related development, police operatives in Ebonyi State have arrested 17 individuals in Enohia Itim village, Afikpo Local Government Area, over the brutal murder of Uromchi Okorocha.

The victim, accused of alleged witchcraft, was lynched by an angry mob who defied police intervention. Despite the officers’ efforts, the mob killed and burned Mr. Okorocha before the police could rescue him.

Condemning the incident, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, stated, “Jungle justice is unacceptable. Citizens are urged to report suspected crimes to law enforcement authorities rather than taking the law into their own hands.”
