Ebonyi Governor Suspends Two Commissioners Over Alleged Diversion Of Govt Materials

The Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has suspended two key state officials, Commissioner for Health, Moses Ekuma, and the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Francis Ori, following allegations of material diversion.

The suspension comes after an incident on Saturday night, when the governor visited the Ministry of Health’s premises and reportedly found six officials caught in the act of diverting government materials.

Governor Nwifuru ordered their immediate arrest and promised full prosecution into the matters.

The decision to suspend the two commissioners was disclosed during the State Executive Council meeting held in Abakaliki, the state capital, on Monday.

This was contained in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpor, which confirmed the development, which has stirred conversations about transparency and accountability in the state’s leadership.

“Following cases of gross misconduct and dereliction of duties by some government officials and matters related thereto, the Chairman of Council directed the indefinite suspension of the Honourable Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development and three months suspension of the Honourable Commissioner for Health respectively,” the statement read.
