Ekiti Government Approves N70,000 Minimum Wage

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has approved the payment of N70,000 minimum wage for the state workers.

Governor Oyebanji, after signing the wage bill agreement with the labour leadership in the state, took to his official social media handle to make this known on Monday.

Governor Oyebanji said, “Glad to report here that our government today approved a new minimum wage of N70,000 for all Ekiti State workers.

“This decision follows the successful signing of a wage agreement between our government and leaders of organised labour in the state.

“I appreciate the understanding and dedication of our labour leaders, as well as the patience and trust of our workers throughout the negotiation process.

“As I have maintained at different fora, our administration will continue to prioritise the welfare and well-being of our workforce. For instance, in response to the fuel subsidy removal last year, we introduced and maintained a special wage award of N15,000 for workers and N10,000 for pensioners to help mitigate the economic impact. While this was initially planned for six months, we have continued these payments alongside regular salaries and pensions, making Ekiti one of the few states to sustain such support.

“Additionally, we have released N4.5 billion in the last two months to address outstanding gratuities and ensure financial security for our retirees.

“As we take these bold steps forward, I urge all public servants to respond by enhancing their dedication and service delivery to enhance the growth and development of our state. Together, we will build a stronger and more prosperous Ekiti.”

Recall, organised labour has directed its state chapters to commence indefinite strike should the new minimum wage of N70,000 is not Implemented on or before December 1, 2024.

Following the organised labour’s directive, state governments across the country have begun to put every necessary thing in motion as far as the minimum wage is concern.
