Ondo Decides 2024: IGP Addresses Stakeholders In Akure, Deploys 22,000 Police Officers

Ahead of the November 16 gubernatorial election in Ondo State, the AIG Abiodun Oladimeji Asabi, representing the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, addressed stakeholders in Akure, the state capital

He emphasized the vital role of security and order in the democratic process.

Highlighting elections as a cornerstone of democracy, AIG Asabi called on all political parties to prioritize peace throughout the election period.

He announced that more than 22,000 police officers would be deployed in collaboration with other security agencies to protect voters, officials, and materials, ensuring safety and preempting any potential threats both before and after the election.

AIG Asabi appealed directly to political parties, candidates, and supporters to “avoid violence and adhere to democratic principles,” urging a commitment to peaceful conduct. He also called on the media to “report positively and objectively” to help maintain a stable environment.

In his closing remarks, AIG Asabi reassured the public of the dedication of security agencies to deliver a free, fair, and peaceful election, building on the foundation of past successes.
