Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has pledged to dualise the Akure-Idanre road if elected in the upcoming governorship election on November 16.
Addressing residents during his campaign visit to Idanre Local Government on Wednesday, Aiyedatiwa promised comprehensive development across the area.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Aiyedatiwa is running as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the election. He highlighted the benefits of the proposed road project, emphasizing its potential to improve transportation and attract investors, particularly those interested in exploring the tourism potential of the scenic Idanre hills.
The governor outlined plans for the road’s dualisation, stating that the project would begin from Oke Aro junction in Akure and extend to Idanre. “My administration is committed to improving critical infrastructure, boosting economic activities, and ensuring the welfare of residents through sustained and strategic investments,” Aiyedatiwa said, adding that preparations, including contracting documentation, were already in progress.
He reassured the people of Idanre that their concerns would be considered, reiterating his dedication to projects that would benefit the entire state.
Speaking at the event, the State Chairman of the APC, Mr. Ade Adetimehin, praised Aiyedatiwa’s focus on infrastructure development in Idanre and throughout Ondo State. “Governor Aiyedatiwa is a leader who prioritises the welfare of all citizens and voting him is a sure way to accelerate the development of the entire state,” Adetimehin remarked.
The Commissioner for Water Resources, Mr. Sunday Akinwalire, highlighted the administration’s commitment to improving water infrastructure. He noted that the governor had released an initial counterpart fund of ₦2.9 billion for water projects, with the Akure Water Project being a key focus. “Akure Water Project will benefit Idanre Local Government as part of the central senatorial district,” Akinwalire said.
He further elaborated on the project’s scope and financing, emphasizing the collaboration with international partners such as the French Development Bank, the International Development Agency, and the African Development Bank. “The governor’s action is a clear demonstration of commitment to ensuring residents have access to clean and safe water,” Akinwalire stated, adding that the project would be awarded within the next few months.
