The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has committed to prioritizing the welfare and capacity building of all civil servants nationwide.
This assurance was given by the association’s president, Comrade Shehu Muhammed, who emphasized that such efforts are essential for helping workers navigate the current economic challenges.
Muhammed also urged the federal government to reconsider its economic policies, encouraging a focus on productivity. He argued that Nigeria’s foreign exchange crisis stems from the country’s lack of export-oriented products, which are necessary for boosting both internal and external trade.
“There is a need for the stability of Naira. We need to look inwards for growth and development of the economy rather than over-dependent on importation to checkmate the foreign exchange. We need not be at the mercy of other countries by importation of all products,” Muhammed stated.
During his address in Lagos this week, Muhammed highlighted the growing impact of artificial intelligence (AI), describing it as a significant challenge for Nigerian workers. He urged civil servants to adapt to this technological shift, warning that failure to do so could leave them stranded or irrelevant in their professions due to the rise of AI.
Outlining his vision for the association, Muhammed expressed his goal of making civil servants a leading example in embracing technological innovation as a tool for progress. He reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing the welfare of civil servants, stating that now is the time to implement palliative measures to ease the impact of the current economic downturn.
“As ASCSN President together with the executive, we shall consolidate on the past achievements of my predecessor by pursuing training and retraining of civil servants to make them relevant to the current challenge of AI. We will address inflation,” he emphasized.
