Asistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ayodele Fadairo (RTD), widely known as Aunty Ayo of Alagbon, has passed away.
Her popularity surged after the legendary Nigerian musician, Orlando Owoh, sang her praises following their encounter at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos State.
The news of her death was made public by Muyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Nigeria Police, through a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Saturday.
Aunty Ayo, who earned her nickname within the police community and among suspects due to her warm and compassionate approach to dealing with detainees, left a lasting impression on those who crossed paths with her during her service.
According to reports, she retired as the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Administration) from the Lagos State Police Command, after an illustrious career that included her time at the FCID, Alagbon.
Her unique blend of firmness, fairness, and friendliness set her apart in her dealings with suspects, and one such person who testified to this was Orlando Owoh. The renowned musician had been arrested and detained at the FCID, where he encountered Aunty Ayo. Following his release, which he attributed in part to her humane treatment and the respect she showed him while in detention, Orlando Owoh immortalized her by singing her praises. In the song, he described her as a tough yet friendly officer who played a crucial role in ensuring his eventual freedom after his exoneration.
Despite the Force PRO’s announcement of her death, no further details have been provided about the circumstances surrounding her passing. Nevertheless, Aunty Ayo’s legacy within the Nigerian Police Force and her impact on those she interacted with, like Orlando Owoh, continues to resonate even after her death. Her compassionate nature and the influence she wielded in a profession often perceived as harsh will remain a significant part of her memory.
