NECO Releases 2024 SSCE Results

The National Examination Council (NECO) has announced the results of the 2024 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE).

NECO’s Registrar, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, revealed that 1,376,036 candidates participated in the examination, which took place between June 19th and July 26th, 2024.

According to Prof. Wushishi, 828,284 candidates have credit passes in both English Language and Mathematics, representing 60.55% of those who sat for the exam.

Announcing the results at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State, he noted that the results were released approximately two months after the final exam.

Further breakdowns of the results show that 83.9% of the candidates earned five credits or more, regardless of their performance in English and Mathematics.

Prof. Wushishi also provided details about exam malpractice during the 2024 SSCE. He reported that 8,407 candidates were involved in malpractice cases, a significant decrease from the 12,030 cases recorded in 2023.

He said, “The 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) was conducted from Wednesday 19th June to Friday 26th July, 2024, while the Marking Exercise took place from Monday 19th August to Sunday 8th September, 2024.

“Today makes it 55 days after the last written paper, which signifies that all the processes leading to the successful release of the 2024 SSCE Internal results have been concluded.”

In summarizing the results, Prof. Wushishi provided the following data:
A total of 1,376,423 candidates registered for the examination, comprising 706,950 males and 669,473 females.

The number of candidates who actually sat for the exam was 1,367,736, including 702,112 males and 665,624 females.

According to NECO, 828,284 candidates (60.55%) earned five credits and above, including English Language Mathematics.

1,147,597 candidates (83.90%) secured five credits and above, irrespective of English and Mathematics.

Prof. Wushishi also highlighted the issue of mass cheating, stating that 40 schools in 17 states were involved in such practices. These schools will face a disciplinary panel, and appropriate sanctions will be enforced.

Additionally, he mentioned that the council has recommended the blacklisting of 21 supervisors for misconduct, including extortion and drunkenness.
