Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has announced that undergraduate and postgraduate students in the state will receive monthly stipends of ₦20,000 and ₦30,000, respectively, from the state government.

Governor Eno made this statement during a Youth Appreciation Rally held at Uyo Township Stadium on Wednesday.

In his address, Eno specified that students pursuing degrees in medicine, law, engineering, and agriculture would also benefit from an increased bursary of ₦30,000 monthly.

“For our students, starting this academic session, we have increased the bursary from ₦10,000 to ₦20,000 for all undergraduates, and from ₦10,000 to ₦30,000 for professional students studying medicine, law, engineering, agriculture, and all postgraduate students,” he said.

Additionally, Governor Eno highlighted efforts by his administration to provide training for youths in engineering in collaboration with Ethiopian Airlines, with further plans to support youth involvement in agriculture. The state will also offer assistance to those trained in modern farming practices by supplying seedlings and acting as the primary purchaser of their produce when it’s ready for harvest.

“We have 21 youths currently training as engineers with Ethiopian Airlines. They are in Addis Ababa, sponsored by the state government. We have trained well over 150 of our youths in agriculture, with the aim of utilizing their skills in our model farms and also to help them become agripreneurs. We will provide them with the seedlings and purchase those seedlings when it’s time for harvest. We’ll support them and provide funds to run their businesses,” Eno added.
