The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has assured Nigerians of its commitment to attend to flooding cases in the country.

This was disclosed in a meeting of the management of the agency in Abuja on Thursday.

According to the Director-General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, the meeting, which was held at Headquarters of the agency in Abuja, was attended by all the Zonal directors of the agency across the country.

Umar said, “At a management meeting at the agency’s headquarters that had all our zonal directors in attendance today, we reviewed the flood situation across the country as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen our operational readiness and response to flood incidents.

“I have also directed that our zonal offices work in synergy with all State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMA) in prepositioning rescue equipment for immediate deployment in the event of flood within their areas of responsibilities.

“Timely response and rapid assessment are crucial to effective disaster management, it is against this backdrop that we activated the Emergency Operations Centre; and the Situation Room at the headquarters for flood data collection, processing, signalling and communication.”
