Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa approves an additional intervention fund of N2 billion on food security.

Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has approved an additional intervention fund of 2 billion naira to bolster food security and mitigate the economic challenges faced by the state’s residents.

According to TVC News, this announcement was made by Otunba Wale Akinlosotu, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation in Ondo State, during a media briefing following the State Executive Council meeting chaired by the Governor.

Akinlosotu revealed that the state government has commenced the distribution of food commodities received from the federal government to vulnerable residents. Additionally, subsidized food sales are being conducted at designated markets across the three senatorial districts.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Forestry, Mr. Olayato Aribo, elaborated on the allocation of these food items to the 18 local government areas within the state. He noted that neighborhood markets have been established where food is sold at reduced prices every Thursday and Sunday in the three senatorial districts, alleviating the high costs in regular markets.

Aribo stated, “We will start with these initiatives and later extend them to other cities and local government headquarters. Rice, beans, and garri will be sold at reasonable and subsidized prices, with specific modalities to be provided later.”

“For a long-term solution, the council has approved 2 billion naira for various initiatives, including land clearing and the provision of farming equipment. We have identified lands across various local government areas as well as dams and water boards across the state,” he added.
