Bandits gun down two persons, kidnap five others in Ondo State

Five travelers kidnapped in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Gunmen, suspected to be bandits have killed two people and kidnapped five others along the Ifon/Owo Expressway in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State on Friday night.

Reports indicate that about 15 armed men, wielding AK-47 rifles, intercepted a Sienna bus carrying travelers at approximately 11 p.m. at Omi Alafa village in Ifon, Ose LGA, and led the victims into the forest.

The driver and a female passenger seated in the front were shot dead, while two other passengers managed to escape.

An eyewitness reported that the vehicle was traveling from Anambra State to Akure when the bandits attacked. He said, “It happened around 11 pm, the bus was going towards Akure when the bandits attacked them.

They were shooting sporadically and shot the driver and one lady sitting in the front. Some of the passengers escaped, but the bandits took away the unlucky ones.”

The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the morgue of a hospital in Ifon, the headquarters of the local government.

Mrs. Fumilayo Odunlami, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident but noted that the command could not determine the exact number of victims who escaped. She stated, “Our men are fully on the ground, combing the forest to ensure that the kidnapped victims are rescued.”
