We will not scrap 33 LCDAs, Ondo State Government assures people

Ondo State Government assures people that it won’t scrap the 33 LCDAs created by late Governor Akeredolu.

The Ondo State government has reassured its citizens that the 33 Local Council Development Authorities (LCDAs) established by the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu will not be dismantled.

According to Vanguard, this assurance comes in response to a ruling by an Ondo State High Court in Akure, which declared the creation of the 33 LCDAs as illegal and unlawful. The court’s decision had sparked concerns about the future of these newly established council areas.

Speaking in Akure, the state capital, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, sought to allay these fears. He announced that the government plans to appeal the court’s judgment. Takuro emphasized that the grievances of those who contested the creation of the LCDAs would be addressed, and that the legal implications of the court’s decision would be examined by the office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining the LCDAs, stating, “One thing I can assure you about LCDA is that it has come to stay. Nothing will abolish LCDA in Ondo State. This government believes in it and it will sustain it.”

Takuro assured the public that every necessary step would be taken to uphold the legacy of the former governor. “The judgment will be appealed and all things needed to be done will be done to make sure that we sustain the legacy of our former boss,” he stated.

The Commissioner highlighted the government’s readiness to engage with all parties involved and to address their concerns comprehensively. He noted that a thorough review of the situation would be conducted, and all relevant issues would be considered. “The state Ministry of Justice has studied the judgement and it will give its report on what to do very soon. By the time they come on what to do, the government will take its position on it,” he explained.

Takuro also criticized those attributing the court’s decision to the governor, labeling them as detractors who are attempting to create chaos and discredit the government for political purposes. He firmly stated, “But one thing I can assure you is that LCDA will be sustained, it is not dead, it is very much alive. Those who are saying that the governor is behind the judgment are the enemies of Ondo State, who are always creating crises and blackmailing the government for political gains.”

He clarified that the governor had no influence over the court’s decision, especially since the issue was brought forth by the people of Akoko, a significant constituency in the state. “They know that Mr. Governor is not from Akoko and he cannot stop the people of Akoko from going to court,” he said.

Takuro recounted his efforts to mediate with the aggrieved parties, noting that despite numerous meetings, some individuals insisted on pursuing legal action. “I was in charge and I called a series of meetings but some of them said they would still go to court and we cannot just stop them,” he stated.

Recognizing the importance of the Akoko people as key stakeholders in the state, Takuro assured that their concerns would be taken seriously. “We believe that the people of Akoko are major stakeholders in this state and when they are agitating the government must listen to them,” he said.

He concluded by reiterating that the government is carefully reviewing the court’s judgment and will take appropriate action in due course. “The judgment has come and we are studying it and the government will do the needful,” he affirmed.
