Rufai reveals outcome of his discussion with Sanwo-Olu, Obaseki on minimum wage

Oseni Rufai discusses with Sanwo-Olu and Obaseki on new minimum wage

The popular media personality and co-host of AriseTv, Oseni Rufai, has revealed his recent discussion with Lagos and Edo governors, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Godwin Obaseki respectively, on minimum wage.

Rufai took to his official social media (X) handle to make this known.

He said, in the course of discussing with the two governors, Sanwo-Olu confirmed to him that he is currently paying N37,000 minimum wage plus wage award of N35,000.

Rufai said, “Yesterday (Monday), I was with Gov Sanwoolu and Gov Obaseki and we discussed minimum wage and gov sanwolu confirmed to me he pays 37k wage plus wage award of 35k making 72k as take home of lagos workers.”

He commended governor Sanwo-Olu for his good gesture to Lagos state workers, and challenged other governors who are complaining of not being able to pay N62,000 as new minimum wage.

“I told him (Sanwo-Olu) I will amplify, that’s commendable, what are the other governors doing. My commending him is in relation to other governors refusing to pay 62k, the ideal wage monthly is about 104k.” Said, Sanwo-Olu.

Recall, following the negotiation on minimum wage between the Organised Labour and the federal government, President Tinubu’s government offered workers N62,000, which Labour bluntly rejected.

Meanwhile, despite the fact that Edo and Lagos governments currently paying N70,000 and N72,000 respetively, to civil servants who are on grade level one step one in their states, still, Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) declared during their recent meeting that N62,000 is not achievable because they won’t be able to cope as far as the running of their states is concerned.

The governors claimed that administration of states in the country will be granted down should N62,000 minimum wage is implemented by President Tinubu’s government.
