Six killed, many injured as female suicide bomber detonated bomb at wedding venue in Mararaba, Gwoza town, Borno State.
No fewer than six persons were reportedly killed and several others injured on Saturday in a bomb attack carried out by a female guest at a wedding venue in Tashsan Mararaba, Gwoza town in Borno State.
Zagazola Makama, a security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, reported via its official X handle that the attack was perpetrated by a young woman in her early twenties.
She detonated her explosive device in the midst of the gathering, leading to widespread chaos and destruction.
According to intelligence sources who spoke with Makama, the victims were civilians who had been attending a wedding celebration. The attack occurred near a busy motorpark as the guests were returning from the festivities.
Emergency services swiftly arrived at the scene to assist the injured and transport them to hospitals in Gwoza.
One source reported that medical personnel at the hospital confirmed at least six fatalities and fifteen injuries as a result of the attack.
In Maiduguri, the state capital, the Borno State Commissioner of Police (CP), Yusuf Lawal, addressed reporters about the incident. He confirmed the attack and identified the assailant as a female suicide bomber.
Lawal stated, “I was informed by the Divisional Police Officer in Gwoza, that at least six people were killed, with 15 others evacuated to the hospital.”
Meanwhile, as at the time of filling this report, the Borno State Government has not released any statement concerning the incident.
