…Odemwingie earns professional Golfers Association’s Certificate…
Former Super Eagles forward Peter Osaze Odemwingie is eager to inspire others to explore the world of golf after being certified as a member of the Professional Golfers Association (PGA).
Odemwingie was able to earn the Professional Golfers Association’s Certificate following his rigorous three-year course at the University of Birmingham.
At 42, Odemwingie boasts an impressive career in football, representing Nigeria 65 times. He participated in the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where he helped Nigeria secure a bronze medal in Tunisia. Additionally, he was one of the over-age players selected for Nigeria’s Dream Team for the football event at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where he won a silver medal.
Odemwingie also played at the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups, held in South Africa and Brazil respectively. Notably, during the 2014 World Cup, he played a crucial role in securing Nigeria’s first win in the tournament since 1998, as the Super Eagles defeated Bosnia Herzegovina with a lone goal at Arena Pantanal in Cuiaba on June 21, 2014.
At the club level, Odemwingie began his professional career with Bendel Insurance in the Nigerian League before moving on to play in various top-tier leagues in France, Belgium, Russia, and England. His versatile career in football laid a strong foundation for his transition into the world of golf.
The PGA Training Programme Certification, which Odemwingie recently completed, has a history spanning over 50 years and encompasses a wide range of subjects, including coaching, management, and sports science. This program is designed to equip professionals with comprehensive knowledge and skills necessary for a successful career in golf. The PGA emphasizes that the sport offers over 75 career options beyond playing, such as refereeing, architecture, and medicine.
