No fewer than ten underaged Nigerian girls, around the ages of 15 and 16, have been rescued by authorities after they were trafficked to neighbouring Ghana for prostitution.
The Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, confirmed this in a video shared via her official social media (X) handle.
Abike Dabiri-Erewa while confirming the report said, “These are young girls trafficked to Ghana for prostitution . We thank Chief Callistus, Chairman, Nido Ghana for ensuring the arrest of the evil perpetrator. I am sure @naptipnigeria will follow up,Very , very heartbreaking.”
WuzupNigeria gathered that the girls were rescued, after a tip-off, by NIDO – the umbrella body of all Nigerians living in Ghana and an arm of the NiDCOM.
Report showed that, at least three of the victims are siblings. “They give us out to men, and they don’t give us money; they collect everything,” one of the girls said in the video.
According to the report, the girls said, a brother of one of them was the one that brought them to Ghana for illicit business.
They also claimed that their phones have been seized by those who are in charged of them, preventing them to have access to call their parents in Nigeria.
