The Kaduna born human rights activist, socio-political critic, public commentator, author and former federal lawmaker who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District at the upper chamber of the national assembly, Senator Shehu Sani, while reacting to the recent change of national anthem, “Arise, O Compatriots” to old one, “Nigeria We Hail Thee,” has jokily said there should a bill for an Act to change the name of Nigeria.
Senator Sani took to his social media handle to make this call.
Sani suggested three different names which Nigeria’s name can be changed to.
Senator Sani said, “A Bill for an Act to Change the Name of Nigeria to;
“1.Federal Republic of SONGHAI.
(parts of Nigeria was once part of the Songhai empire).
“2.United African Republic.
“3.Federal Republic of AZIKENIA
(Coined from Azikiwe,the most passionate Nigerian leader ever).”
According to Sani, one of the merits of changing this country’s name is to tell China that Nigeria has died and that we as a new country can’t pay the debt the late Nigeria is owing them.
“One of the advantage of changing our name is to tell China that Nigeria has died and we can’t pay them their money the Late Nigeria borrowed.” Said, Senator Sani.
Recall, on May 29, President Bola Tinubu, while marking his one year anniversary in office, signed into law, the bill changing the country’s national anthem from “Arise, O Compatriots” to “Nigeria We Hail Thee.”
Recall, few days ago, Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, presented a bill to the National Assembly, requesting for a reversal to old national anthem, and not quite long after that the presentation of the bill, lawmakers passed it into law, thereby legalizing old national anthem- Nigeria We Hail Thee, jettisoning, the current one- Arise O Compatriots.
What are your reactions to Senator Sani’s opinion on the subject matter above?
