The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, on Monday, announced N70,000 as the new minimum wage for workers in the state.
The Governor made this declaration while commissioning the Labour House which is second to none, and regarded as the most magnificent Labour House in Nigeria, built by the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration, and named after a foremost labour unionist in the country who hails from Edo State, Comrade Sen. Adams Aliu Oshiomhole.
Meanwhile, the Presidents of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), Joe Ajaero, Festus Osifo and several other Labour leaders were physically present at the inauguration of the Labour House, during which Edo State Governor, Obaseki announced N70,000 new minimum for workers in the state.
The new minimum wage increase is expected to take effect from May 1, 2024.
Now, following the announcement of Governor Obaseki concerning the new minimum wage in Edo state, other State governments may likely follow suit.
Anyway, Nigerian workers are still looking unto Labour Unions to take their final position on exactly amount to peg new minimum wage in the country.
