English is just a language, it is not a standard to gauge intelligence or literacy- Former Presidential Aide, Reno Omokri says

The Nigerian born public commentator and former media aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri has said that, English is just a language, and that it is not a standard to gauge intelligence or literacy.

According to Omokri, a person who can not speak good English can be intelligent and literate.

Omokri: “English is just a language. It is not a standard to gauge intelligence or literacy. A person who cannot speak good English can be intelligent and literate, and a person who speaks British English can be illiterate and not very smart.

“Ladi Kwali could not speak the best English, but she was intelligent and invented an art form that is now world-famous. Her field of art is now studied at Western universities. That is who you see on the twenty Naira note.

“We in Africa have to reorient ourselves away from our colonial mentality. China has billions of people who don’t speak, read, or write English. But they can build rockets that land on the moon. Ditto for India. When we start realising, like the Chinese and Indians, that we are capable of intelligence and literacy that is not tied to English culture, we will likewise develop our military-industrial complex with the capacity to send men to the moon!

“Please fact-check me: The English language does not even have its own writing script or numbers. It uses the Latin script. And the 1,2,3 numbers the English use are of Hindu-Arabic origin. Here in Africa, Ethiopia has its own language and script, as well as their own numbers, which are far older than English and Latin. Africa has what it takes to soar.”
