Oba Olakulehin Sets To Ascend As New Olubadan

The Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, is set to become the new Olubadan of Ibadanland pending the approval of the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

This succession follows the passing of the 42nd Olubadan, Oba Lekan Balogun, on Thursday, with Oba Olakulehin being the rightful heir.

Confirming the monarch’s demise, Governor Makinde conveyed the news through his Chief Press Secretary, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, stating that Oba Balogun passed away at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.

Born on October 18, 1942, the late monarch’s reign lasted for two impactful years.

He is slated to be laid to rest in accordance with Islamic customs on Friday at 4 pm.

Next in line, Olakulehin, who leads the Balogun lineage and hails from Ita Baale in Ibadan North East Local Government, is anticipated to assume the esteemed position.

Having previously served as a member of the House of Representatives during the Third Republic, Olakulehin will bring his wealth of experience to the role.

It is expected that ceremonial drummers will journey from Alli-Iwo to the Ita Baale Palace of Oba Olakulehin, marking his symbolic ascension to the revered throne.
