A 45-year-old man, Tajudeen Olaleye, has been ordered by the Ekiti State Magistrates’ Court to be remanded in prison at the Correctional Centre in Ado Ekiti over the alleged murder of a mediator in a fight.
According to Police prosecutor, Inspector Yomi Osuolale, the defendant committed the offence on March 10, 2024, in Otun Ekiti, in the Moba Local Government Area of the state.
The prosecutor said, there was a discord between the defendant, Olaleye and someone in the neighbourhood, meanwhile, the deceased was trying to mediate between the two quarreled parties, and in the process, the defendant picked up a bottle and stabbed the mediator, and few hour after the time, she gave up the ghost.
Osuolale stated: “There was a fight between the defendant and someone in the neighbourhood. The deceased tried to mediate between the two parties; in the process, the defendant stabbed her with a bottle, which led to her death.”
As at the time of filling this report, the cause of discord between the defendant, Olaleye and his neighbour, which later escalated to the stabbing of a mediator was yet to be ascertained.
Osuolale added that, the offence committed by the defendant contravened section 234 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State (2012).
“The offence contravened Section 234 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.”
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant at the correctional centre pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
“The defendant should be remanded at the correctional centre pending pending the legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutor. Osuolale urged the Magistrate.
Meanwhile, the Magistrate, Mrs Olubunmi Bamidele, ordered the remand of the defendant at the correctional centre, pending the issuance of legal advice, and adjourned the case till April 25.
