Arsenal defender Ben White has informed Gareth Southgate that he wishes to pause his consideration for the England squad, the manager disclosed.
Southgate unveiled a 25-man squad for upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium, omitting White despite injuries to other right-back options.
White, who last played for England during the World Cup in Qatar, has recently signed a new contract with Arsenal and expressed his delight at finding his place at the Emirates Stadium.
In response to White’s decision, Southgate stated, “For me, that is a great shame. He is a player we took to the Euros, a player we took to the World Cup and I spoke to him post-Qatar because I wanted to pick him.”
White, reflecting on his new contract, shared, “Being here is unbelievable and I’d love to stay (for more years).”
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed his satisfaction with White’s commitment, saying, “Ben is a key player for us, a top professional with a winning mentality, and one of the guys who leads by example every day.”
