The former media aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has called on President Bola Tinubu not to tailor Nigeria’s economy to suit foreign forces.
Omokri took to his official X handle to make this known on Tuesday.
“President Bola Tinubu should not tailor Nigeria’s economic policies to suit forces outside Nigeria. We need money. We have oil. What are we still doing in the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, which limits our daily output? Electric cars are taking over the world. Oil may soon be less relevant. Nigerian ought to get out of OPEC and increase her daily production to the highest levels we can and sell as much as possible.” Omokri said.
Omokri said further, “OPEC favours countries like Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait. Countries with a small population and substantial oil reserves. It is no longer working for countries like Nigeria, with huge populations and limited oil reserves.”
Omokri added that, “If we keep following OPEC, we may regret that we did not sell our oil when we had the chance.”
